Welcome to the New Year. New Year, new me. Just kidding, same me.
It’s been an interesting start to 2021. That’s why I’m about two weeks behind on getting this episode out. But I promise to be better. We have so many incredible guests coming on the podcast this year. I’m pumped, and I hope that you guys are just as pumped as I am. Our goal for this year with the all the things team is to have at least two episodes out a week. In one episode, I’m going to focus on teaching and educating you about your businesses. If you are new here, I am a lawyer turned business coach. And I specialize in helping online coaches and entrepreneurs take their beautiful idea for their business and coaching business and launch it into a fully profitable coaching business, complete with a signature program, how to sell and, all the things in between.
Trust me. I will give you all the details on how you can be landing more clients in your business, and let’s be honest if you don’t have clients, you don’t have a business. No matter where you are in the journey of your business, this will be helpful for you, and you will learn something. Go to www.3paidclients.com, and you can register there. There’s also a link in my bio on Instagram @reginaalawrence. Check it out.
So with that, this year, we will be doing more podcast episodes, really teaching and educating one of the episodes. Then I have 52 plus guests lined up for 2021 on everything: sales, business, spirituality on manifestation, and the science and all the juicy goodness. So tune in. You guys are going to be so loving what’s coming this year. Since this is the beginning of 2021, I want to talk to you guys about how I plan my year and my life. And let me say this with a caveat.
I like to plan. If you know me, you know all my type an enneagram three, Virgo red, fiery fucking female. However, one of the things that I have learned and been learning MN, and I’m a student of, is going with the flow. So I think there’s some there’s beauty and planning, and setting the expectation because that is a part of manifesting things in our life, we set an expectation, we envision the thing that we want, we feel into the thing and the energy of what we are manifesting and creating. And then, we put a plan of action into place. Because without the action without the pathways, as I like to call them. There’s no way for the abundance to flow into our lives, right. So a plan is necessary. I don’t care if you are my free-flowing, creative, artistic woo-woo followers. This is for you, too.
The first thing I like to do is make a plan for the year with my business. I map out what is my intention in my business this year? Where do I want my energy to go? Where did my energy go last year? So let me tell you about my business. So last year, my business was focused on growing my one-on-one coaching business and my social media business. I have a Social Media Marketing Agency. I don’t promote it because I only work with a very select niche of entrepreneurs. Those are my two businesses. So last year, I was very focused on growing those two businesses. This year, I am still focused on growing my coaching business. But I’m putting my energy into something called the “All The Things Business Coaching Academy.” I’m creating a group coaching experience and container that will start in the middle of February. And I’m going to take at least 30 coaches through a very intimate, curated, complete experience, where they’re going to start from the inception of the idea for their coaching business, their niche to creating the brand, creating a signature program, landing pages, freebie opt-ins, how to sell, actually doing a successful launch, systems in your business and how not to lose your mind during the whole process. That’s going to be my focus this year.
I sat down, and I mapped out when do I want to launch. How many people would I like, ideally, in the program? How much am I charging per person for each round? Because the first round will be significantly… less? Because it’s the first round, then the next three rounds this year. What is my expected net income to come from that? Right? Then I looked at my one-on-one coaching. I’m still going to do one-on-one coaching. But I’m going to take a very, very select few people. I think I will only have two to four one on one coaching clients at a time. I will never take more than that. So I set that intention. I looked at how many people I would like to bring into the business through one-on-one coaching over the year. What is the projected income from that? I did that with each facet of my business. I host a live event. I host virtual events. I have the podcast. I have a lot of free events that are going to be coming this year, virtually. Check that out once it drops on Instagram! I like to look at the year because that gives me an idea of where the energy will go and what is really important in the business. As entrepreneurs (and it doesn’t matter what stage we are in the business), it is so easy to get distracted. Listen, I’ll be the first to admit it. I got fucking “shiny object syndrome.” I like the next hot thing. If I have a friend who’s doing something different from me, I’m like, “Ooh, I have many friends that do masterminds,” and I have been allured by maybe doing a mastermind. It’s not in the cards for All The Things Business in 2021. Okay? However, I thought about it. So having your plan and action and your intention and your goal, and your focus for your business mapped out is really, really good. Shit changes, life changes.
Let’s just think about 2020. We all had plans, right? We all had business plans for 2020. But the world changed! We had to pivot for our businesses to survive and to make some profit. Okay, so having the plan doesn’t mean that if something happened, like in 2020, we wouldn’t pivot and shift and do something different. That is always a possibility. Because we have no control of the world around us. We have no control of the world around us. We have no control over our business. We have no control over our clients. We do have control of how we respond to the situations that we are provided with. We are resilient. Say that “I am resilient.” Whatever 2021 throws at us, I am resilient. I can pivot. I can serve my community, no matter what happens in the world around me. I am resilient. That is the mantra for 2021 people. Because we don’t have control of the world. But we do have control of our responses and how we creatively serve our people. Right? Right. So we come up with the plan.
Let’s go to the next step. I’m a little bit old school. I’m a millennial, okay. I am pretty techie…ish. But I love a paper calendar—love, love, love. I, for the longest time, would not use my iCal.
I have an iPhone. I have a Mac. I was resistant to the iCal. But I decided that because there are people on my team, with the need of scheduling and calendly, and all the different things in my business, it was time to succumb to the digital calendar. Great. What I do like is I like an oversized, plain white desk calendar. I don’t need something fucking fancy-schmancy; I need the kind of desk calendar that when I was in practice, as a lawyer, we were all given at the firm. Why? Because it’s big. It’s simple, and it’s bold. So once you have your yearly plan, I like to do one month at a time, sit down with my goals. And with that calendar and map out what is happening in my business. I like a physical, tangible reminder right in front of me. And this shit is so big. You could put post-it notes on it. You can put goals for the month. You can put mantras, write in appointments, do everything that helps you set the stage, and set the intention a week and a month at a time. Okay, you could sit down with this thing once a month, map out everything you know that’s gonna be happening, your launches, your sales if you’re recording podcast episodes, whatever you’re doing the business, handwrite it out.
There’s something for me; listen, I’m not a scientist. But there’s something about physically writing, something that gets my brain flowing and gets me connected to whatever I’m doing. It also helps me not to forget shit. Because even though I have things on my digital calendar sometimes like, I don’t know, I miss things. Do you guys do that too? Like it’s right in front of me. But I think because I’m so constantly seeing things digitally that I just sometimes miss it. So it’s good for me to have the reminder and paper in front of me. Okay. Then I have my daily planner. This is something I started doing this year. I can’t take credit for this idea because I didn’t create it myself. My favorite blogger, podcaster. Her name is Lauren Everts Bostic, and her handle is at the skinny confidential.
I love her so much because she is so organized. It is beautiful, and I’ve learned so much from her. So shout out, Lauren, But something that she does is, she’s got a cute notepad. So I got myself a super cute notepad. And in it every day, I write the date. I write what I’m grateful for. I write the top three things that I must do today, no matter what these three things have to happen. Then I write down “How do I want to feel today?”, when I write down how I want to feel today, I write them in the present tense. I am peaceful, I am grateful, I am abundant, I am at ease. I write them in the present tense because they’re already mine. That’s already my state of mind. And I’m just acknowledging it and honoring it. Then I like to say, “Who am I sending joy to? Who am I sending happiness to? Who am I sending this positive energy to in my life? Who am I praying for today?” I make a list of people who are on my heart because it’s just not about me, right? It’s about other people. And that’s good for me. And then my gratitudes, “What am I grateful for today?” My must-dos are: “How do I want to feel?” “Who am I sending happiness to?” And then there is a method that Lauren teaches a lot about in skinny confidential. Please go check it out. I don’t need to recreate the wheel here; just read what Lauren wrote. It’s a very efficient way to get the important things done. If you’re like me, and I know a lot of you are, I’m the queen of to-do lists that have 572,000 things on them. And then what happens is, I don’t finish all the things on the list. And then I feel like a failure. And so then, when you’re constantly creating these massive to-do lists, and you’re not accomplishing anything on the to-do list, it is constantly making you feel like I didn’t do enough, I didn’t do enough, I’m not doing enough.
When we get into an energy of I didn’t do enough, I’m not doing enough, we are signaling to the universe that I’m not good enough. I haven’t done enough. Please don’t give me success. Please don’t give me abundance. I am not enough. This has been a huge lesson in my life. Because in the past, I was always letting myself down. Because I was setting the expectation that it’s just not possible for one human to accomplish. So the D method is all about how to be productive in a way that’s not overwhelming you, so again, Google The Ivy Lee Method. I think The Ivy Lee Method tells you to pick your five things for the day, and I do eight because I’m a little bit extra. But eight is so much better for me than 562 million because that’s what used to be on my list. Something else I’ve added to the bottom of my page every day is a mantra. I have been working on my money mindset for a very long time. I did not grow up with a great money mindset. I could talk about that for days and the work I’ve been doing on that. I am setting an energetic expectation with the universe that there will be a certain amount of money that every week, no matter what, is a non-negotiable for me to be coming into my PayPal. That is something I learned from one of my coaches. And it’s an expectation that I’m setting for myself and my business. So that’s how I plan my day. So months, or years, months and days.
Something else I’m also doing on a more granular level is if you’re like me, and I know that you are, you have a lot of different things you’re doing at one time. So for me, I am coaching. I am creating content for social media. I am running my social media business, and I am podcasting. Those are like the big things that I’m doing. Each one of those things requires massive chunks of time. I wouldn’t say I like to go back and forth between different activities. I like to do an activity at a time. Okay. So I have decided to look at my calendar and chunk out chunks of my week. So that I know that if it’s Monday, from 12 to 3, I’m filming video content and reels for my social media that I have been very resistant to. You’ll see more and more on my social media. And this is me holding myself accountable that I’m going to create reels that feel in alignment for me. On Mondays, I will wash my hair. I wash my hair only once a week. Yeah, because I have a lot of fake hair on my head. And I mean, I don’t need to justify it to anybody, but I only wash my hair once a week. And so on Mondays, I’ll wash my hair, I’ll do my makeup, and I’ll film that will be like the day I do that I’ll bulk create my content. I’ll also write all my copies for my posts on Mondays. Okay. And then Thursdays are podcast days. So that’s going to be the day that I record all my podcasts and have guests, and do solo ups. On Thursdays, I’ll have another chunk of time where maybe I’m pitching for podcasts and scheduling people for podcasts, all that kind of stuff.
Look at your life and think about what are the things that you are like that take up big chunks of time, and how can you time block them together, and like chunk them together and do them. So that is how I’m planning my life right now. And I thought it could be helpful for some of you. I know planning is something that can be overwhelming to us. And even though I’m such a planner, I had to take it down to a micro-level of time blocking my days. Because even though I’m pretty organized, I still sometimes, you know, as an entrepreneur, you’re like, “what the fuck do I do with my time?”. Or another thing that I do, which I realized is I act as I owe it to myself, I don’t say to other people, I act as I have so much to do, and I have no time. But when I sat down and look at the things I needed to do in the number of hours, it takes a week, and it’s not a crazy amount of time. But if I time block it and chunk it out, I’m like, Oh, that’s manageable because it doesn’t overwhelm me. If I do that, I am very good at overwhelming myself. I feel like some of you guys are probably good at that too. And what happens is I overwhelm myself. And then, when I get overwhelmed, I procrastinate. And when I procrastinate, I curl up in bed and pull my blanket over my head and watch Netflix. And then I might like I’ll just get to it later when I have more energy. So this level of planning yearly, monthly, daily, and time blocking is huge for me. I hope that this has given you some inspiration for planning some areas of your life, even if you’re not planning like I am on a yearly level, to have some structure and planning. I hope that this is helpful for you.
