Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about energetic releases. What I mean by that is everything that happens in our life, every time we react to something respond to something, we have some energetic response in the body, right. So if we’re feeling any emotion, that emotion has an energy attached to it. And power can really get stuck in the body. And for me, when energy gets stuck, I feel stagnant. I feel like I’m trapped inside of myself. I don’t know if you’ve ever felt this. But I will have this experience where I’m sitting with myself. And I can’t escape this human body. And I feel so trapped in this meat suit. I hate the term meat suit, but so many people use it, and it applies perfectly in this situation; I just get trapped in the vessel of my body. And so, something that I have realized is that different experiences in our life can get trapped in our bodies, in ourselves. You have to look it up. This is not my zone of genius. But I know it’s real. I’ve read about it. And it has been so applicable in my life. So, we can do different modalities to help move the energy through and out of the body. A few things that have helped me so much that I want to share are ways to move it out intellectually and through the brain. There are ways that I move it out through my body.
One way that I like to process energy and information is through journaling. I am a written and verbal processor. Sometimes I feel hype in a situation, and I like to take a minute, write it out, and figure out its truth. I create a story based on past experiences (we all are a wealth of past experiences). If our brain sees patterns or habits of behavior that remind us of past experiences, sometimes we create stories and think that whatever happened in the past is happening again. Sometimes it’s true, and sometimes it’s false. So I like to sit and write and process it. In that way, writing allows me to see what is true and the story I’m creating. I’m also a verbal processor, and I like to verbally process and talk things out with people who are a safe space for me. So some of my best friends are like such beautiful space holders for me. And I love being able to process with them verbally. Some physical things that I do to release energy from my body include movement. So exercise has been a super non-negotiable for me since I was in college. And what I realized is that exercise allows me to really move through energetically, whatever I am dealing with at the moment. So exercise, lifting weights, going to spin class, all of that stuff is so so so good for me to move through energy.
Something else that’s similar, but a little different, is dancing. Oh, my God, I have been dancing since I was a kid. And in fact, my nickname at home is Jean being the dancing machine. Because from the time I was a small child, I was literally shaking my ass on the dance floor, just living my best life. Dancing and shaking your hand and jumping around are such powerful ways to move through energy; I can’t recommend it enough.
The final thing that I’ll give you to think about is something called breathwork. I particularly like to do holotropic breathwork. Breathwork is an intense pattern of breathing where we are oxygenating. Did I say that right? Oxygenating the body at a really, really high level and breathing deeply and intensely can also help us move through energy in the body. So I oftentimes will do a combination of these things or one of these things. Whenever I really commit to it in a moment where I’m feeling energetically blocked, I’m feeling trapped in my body. I’m having emotions come up that I need to process through these different modalities, which helped me process and move through whatever is coming up for me energetically and then move on with my life. Because when we have energy stuck in us, we literally feel stuck and trapped in our lives. I know that I do, and so the faster and more efficiently I can process and move through the energy, the better I am as a human. I hope that this helps you.
