This is my first solo episode since Monday and I’ve given myself grace and not beating myself up about not publishing a podcast for two days. But I’m also jumping back on the bandwagon for the rest of this epic adventure.
So I’ll do a whole episode on the trip to Guatemala, but I want to share about an experience that we had today because it was so beautiful and I’m still integrating the experience but I’m fresh off of it, so I thought why not share it. Me and seven of the girls that are here on the retreat, there are 18 of us total did a sweat lodge today. And you know when I think of a sweat lodge I always think of the picture of Native Americans sitting in a teepee with a fire sweating for hours and this was similar. It was an interesting experience, the intention behind it was honoring the four elements. So Earth, wind, fire, and water. And really giving thanks for all that those elements do for us. And I don’t know about you, but I can’t tell you the last time I sat and thought about the elements and gave thanks to the elements for all that they do for us and with us.
And so you go into this little, it looks like a little hobbit house hut. And in the center, it’s like a stone, brick building. And then in the center is a little ditch where the hot lava rocks are placed. And our guide would bring in four hot rocks. And then she would bless and honor the rocks with frankincense, white sage, lavender, and cacao. So Guatemala is known for its cacao, which is where chocolate comes from, and in this place that people really honor and love cacao. And so each of the rocks is blessed. And then water is poured on the hot stones, and it gets really warm and really steamy. And then we first start with we start with each element. So we started with Earth, and we say something that we are thankful for. And it’s also dark, darker in there. So we go around the circle, because it’s a circular space, and we say what we are thankful for, from the earth. And then we sing ancient native songs to the earth. And it was really beautiful, and really moving. And something I couldn’t even imagine was what was going to happen when we did this ceremony. And then after you do the first round, it’s about 15 minutes, you go out, and you take a cold shower, and you drink some tea with water. And then you go back in and you do the next element. You go through each element and it’s a similar process. You give gratitude, you sing songs, and new hot rocks are brought in every time and you go out and you shower in a really cold shower. And then you come back in and you do the ritual again. And the thing, the lesson, the takeaway right now before it’s fully completely integrated, is that in the craziness of life in all the movement of life, it’s rare that we stop and we take a moment and we give thanks for the simple things that are surrounding us and fueling us and really giving lifeforce to us at a deep fundamental level. And it was so beautiful to stop and to honor the elements, and to do it with other people and to honor each other and hold that space with one another. A lot of this retreat for me has been about that. It’s been about really taking in the things in life that I so quickly rush over, because of the business and the business and the craziness. And listen, I love the business and the craziness in the business. Like I love it so much. But I also love and honor the moments of slowness and stillness, which is what we are experiencing here right now. And I wanted to share that with you. So wherever you are, whatever you’re doing in life, how can you take moments, to honor the stillness to honor the sweetness of the things around you. That was my lesson for today. And I hope that you can pull something from that in your own life right now, which is really my intention of these daily podcasts, a lot of his musings and tips and tricks, but I really want it to be something of value where you can pull from it, things that are applicable to your life and take lessons from it for your own life. So with that, I love you guys. I hope you’re having a beautiful day wherever you are in the world.
