I am reporting to you live from my sofa. I’m in my underwear. If I’m being honest, I don’t have any underwear; I have a giant sweatshirt. And my hair is up in a dirty, messy bun that I need to wash. But I’m feeling some resistance towards doing it. And I am working away over here. So I’m going away. I’m going away on my first trip since pre-pandemic. And I need all my ducks in a row ever. So I’m going on a Breathwork and Cacao retreat in Guatemala, and then I’m going to Tulum, and then I’m going from Tulum to Mexico City. And then I’m either going to come back or go to Cabo on a little maybe romantic adventure; we will see TBD. I’m in the midst of my 30-day podcast challenge. I was thinking I didn’t know what I wanted to talk about today. But something that’s been coming up as a theme in my life and a theme in my friend’s lives is dealing with the unexpected in your life and your business. And how do we deal with just the unexpected shit that is popping up all the time? And I don’t know about you guys, but as a business owner, and as a Virgo, and as a type-A female, when unexpected things pop up, it’s tough for me because I like to plan for everything, and you can never plan for everything. And so, I see this as a theme a lot in my life and other people’s lives.
I’ve been reflecting a lot on how do I move through the unexpected? How do we move through when life throws us curveballs and throws shit in our face. And the thought that I always try to maintain once I get through the initial shock of the change is that everything is always working out for me. The universe is always conspiring in my favor. I don’t want to be cheesy about it, but I do truly believe that I know that everything happens for me, and for a distinct reason, and a distinct purpose. Since I was a little kid, I’ve always been obsessed and still am obsessed with cause and effect. Like, how did meeting this person lead to this experience, lead to this heartbreak, that led to that best friend, but led to that new experience that led to that love that led to that great meal, that led to that unique experience, right? Everything is so connected, the good, the bad, the high, the low, the ugly, the sad, the happy, the joyful, and when we can see that everything is happening for us. And when we can start to recognize that those really painful moments… What was on the other side of that? What was the happiness? What was the joy? What was the fulfillment that came from that? What was the expansion that we underwent, and the most painful times of our lives, that then led us to be bigger and more vast and able to handle the next levels of joy and love? We live in a world of polarity, so as much as we can love is as much as we can hurt, and as much as we can hurt is as much as we can love.
So as things happen in our lives, everything can be expansive, and we can have really beautiful expansive moments that are so fucking hard and painful. But we get through it; we get to the other side of it, we survive it. And then on the other side of that, we have a greater appreciation and, and, and just love for the things that are happening. I always think of it in terms of relationships, like I had this guy I was engaged to. So I was engaged in law school. I don’t really ever talk about this because when I started the podcast and started growing my business online, it literally feels like another lifetime ago. I was engaged. I have actually been proposed to three times no, officially twice. I was only engaged once. The first guy that proposed to me, I said no. He’s a bloody psycho. I’ll tell you guys about him later. That’s a good story. But I was engaged. And that relationship was really fucking difficult. It was really toxic. It was really painful. And a lot of shit happened in that relationship that just really expanded me and made me think about things in a completely different way. And then, when that relationship ended, I eventually met a guy who ended up being my partner for five years. And I appreciated that guy I was with for five years, so much more, because of the relationship that I had that was so shitty and toxic. If I hadn’t had that painful experience with my ex-fiance, my partner, for five years, I wouldn’t have so loved and appreciated that human. It’s the same thing with everything in life.
So going back to my original thought, when bad things happen in life. Listen, I am the first to tell you that I’m the girl in the fetal position under my coffee table, or literally in my bathtub with a bag of veggie straws listening to the Liza with a bottle of Rosé. Yes, that happened. It happened at the beginning of the pandemic, I lost my mind. I didn’t know what the fuck was happening. So anyway, I’m the first to say I get upset, get sad, and get scared. But then it kicks in, and I say, You know what? What’s the lesson? What’s the connection? How is this working out for me? How is this working out in my favor? And eventually, you see what it was all for. You see the purpose of all of it. So if you’re going through a hard time, if you’re having a hard moment, if you feel like the universe is throwing so much shit at you. I get it. It probably is. That’s just the polarity of life. We have our high highs, and then we have our low lows. I get it. But looking towards how is the universe conspiring in my favor and what is the next step in the journey helps me so much to stay focused and stay grounded.
So I hope this was helpful. I love you guys, and I’ll see you tomorrow on the podcast.
