Hey guys, I am popping in for a short daily podcast episode. The episodes keep getting recorded later and later. It is Sunday night at 7:15. And I am here. And tonight, I wanted to share a lesson that I’ve been reflecting on. And it’s interesting because there are lots of different things I’ll commit to. But this is a public commitment to record a daily podcast and show up on social media regularly. And what I’ve realized is for me, when I am starting a new habit of behavior, the first like 10-11 days, I ride high, I feel good about it, I’m so committed to it. And then my old habits and ways of being and living come out. And I want to go back to the old behavior. And that’s how we all are, I think, or most of us are when we’re creating new habits and patterns of behavior. We get high on whatever the thing is we’re doing. We get excited. And then we stopped doing it. And something I realized for me is that when I tried to create a new habit in the past, I’ve been really strict about it you have to do it this time in this way. Very specific. But because I’ve given myself grace with the podcast, and I’ve said okay, your recording one every day, and it’s been kind of at different times. You know, it hasn’t been perfect. It has been messy. I was hungover on an episode, but I did it anyway. It has made me realize that I don’t have to be so strict all the time if the thing or the task is getting done. And I think that’s a really, really important lesson.
For me being so strict has helped and does help in certain ways. But I find I’m a little bit rebellious. And so when I’m really really strict with myself, I want to push back against it and I want to rebel Oh I’m such a rebellious Virgo. It’s so funny. But that’s been the biggest lesson for me. Another lesson for me is that I can commit to it when I find simple ways to do something. So this podcast, I’m recording on my anchor app. And then, in anchor, if you’re somebody who’s thinking about recording a podcast, you can have your intro and outro. So if I record a five to 10-minute podcast, it takes me no more than five or eight minutes to create the episode, dictate a summary, and then put it out to the world. And like, that’s a no-brainer for me. So for me, it’s sticking to my commitments. It’s knowing that around day 10 to 12, I want to quit, and it’s creating a way that I can do things in the most simple and efficient way possible. So think about this framework of what I’m doing. How does it apply to your life? Where do you see yourself in the lesson that I just had? And how can you implement something like this for yourself? I would love to know what you’re thinking and what your thought processes are after this. Shoot me a DM or tag me in it on Instagram and share with me your lesson. Lots of love, guys.
