If you are new to the podcast or have been joining me for a while I have been doing a 30-day podcast challenge where every day I am just doing a little bite-sized episode to share something in my life, my business, my spiritual journey. Lately, it’s been a lot of business but business has been at the forefront. I have been thriving in my masculine energy if I do say so myself. But I’m in a season of sprinting and getting shit done. I am getting ready to go on vacation. I have not left the United States since pre-pandemic. Actually, the last place I was in Canada was with Jackie, my Canadian best friend Jackie Serviss, the queen of people and connecting, and I was there for Valentine’s Day last year with her and her husband Brooks. The last time I left the country, baby, so now I’m going on a trip and I have always been such an avid traveler. So this time has been really strange for me so I’m going on vacation. I am going to Guatemala for holotropic breathwork and cacao trip retreat and then from there me and a bunch of my girlfriends are going to Tulum. Tulum is funny it’s making me laugh because every influencer or want to be an influencer and their fucking mother is in Tulum right now. And honestly, I say it like I’m talking shit, I’m not. I can’t wait to be there filming reels, doing content thriving on the beach. Like I can’t wait for that. So we’re going to Tulum and then we’re going to go to Mexico City for a couple of days. And I might come right back. Or, maybe I will go on a little rendezvous to Cabo for a couple of days. So to be determined, I’m not quite sure, yet. But I’m going to be going on some adventures. And so in that, I am getting ready in my life and with my team to leave.
And so, you know, lately, we’ve been talking a lot about, where about assistance about getting your first personal assistant. What that looks like, all the things. So I thought I’d give you guys some tangible advice about where to actually find people that you want to be hiring. So my very first assistant came to me because I actually knew her. And I, she had been a holistic organic chef, we had for an event in Canada. And so I met her and knew her. And that’s how she came to be my assistant. The first thing I’d say is, if you are looking for an assistant in your business, get really clear on what you’re wanting, and what roles you’re needing help with, like, what you want them to do, how many hours you want them to work for you all that stuff. And then start to ask people and tell people what you’re looking for. When I was looking for an assistant, I started telling everyone, I wanted an assistant for a couple of hours a week, word of mouth is huge. Just start telling people talking about it, asking about it. Another great place to find an assistant is maybe put something up on your Instagram story that you’re looking to hire and what you are looking to hire for.
You might know somebody or know somebody who knows somebody who is looking for a job, which is exactly what you are looking to fill. So social media, Facebook groups, if you are part of any entrepreneurial or business Facebook groups, go in and put a post up and that people from those groups, Facebook groups are great because you can kind of social media stalk people before you ever connect with them and see like, do you even vibe with them. Another place that has been a great resource for me has been Upwork. So Upwork is a website where you can find people who are in the States or in other countries, and learn about them and connect with them for a job, you can create a job post, put it up on Upwork. And then people can actually respond to it and apply for your job. A trick that I was told about Upwork was in the middle of your job posting, put some sort of like funny, or like, almost like a little, not a trick, but like a little thing to see if people are actually reading your whole post, like asking them to put something in their application that indicates they read the whole job posting because a lot of times people will just see the posts and apply. But they don’t actually know what they’re applying for. So that’s a little bit of caution for you to take there. I also love to read their reviews, there are reviews on our work to see how other people have rated them. And then something else I’ve started to do, which I was taught by one of my good friends, is I will do a paid trial. So I will trial people and see how they do pay them for the work. And then I get to see. So if it works out, well I get great quality work. If it doesn’t at least I haven’t over-committed to something, I’ve tried them on something and realize that they’re not a good fit for me. So that is how I utilize Upwork there’s something else called Fiverr. I’ve never used it, but other entrepreneurs swear by it. But for me Upwork, Facebook groups, word of mouth. And then also with word of mouth. I’m a part of a female entrepreneurial group in town, in Arizona. And so groups like that in person in your community are also an awesome place to network with people and to find an assistant a little trick too especially if you’re hiring for the first time. And you don’t want to hire someone for more than a couple of hours. What we have done, me and my friends, is we have done an assistant share where Jackie and I started. We have the same assistant to start. And we both gave her a certain amount of hours. That is something that you can do. You don’t need to hire somebody for a huge amount of hours. If you’re sharing an assistant with a bunch of people. You know, you might only need somebody a couple of hours a week. See if somebody is open to that a lot of times people are hesitant to find an assistant or to like start that journey because they think, Oh no, if I have them I need them 10 hours a week and I don’t know if I have enough stuff to give them yet, and I don’t know if I have the budget for that. That’s okay. You can likely find somebody who will do a couple of hours of work for you every week. So, just a little pro tip to think about. I hope this was helpful.
If you guys have any questions you want to be answered about hiring, a new hire in your business, slide into my DMS. Let me know what you want to hear about and I’ll make an episode on it. I also have some really great friends like Jackie who are experts in hiring, that I would be happy to bring on and answer all of your questions.
